Top 3 tips to keep your skin looking radiant for your wedding day photos.

Here are a few tips from a wedding photographer you can do at home, along with having a professional make-up artist (which I highly recommend) to create radiant, glowing wedding day skin that will look flawless in your wedding day photos.

  1. Keeping your skin well hydrated will help you look your best in your wedding day photos. Your skin is 64% water. Celebrities claim that keeping their skin hydrated is their secret behind supple, glowing, always camera-ready skin. Keeping your skin well hydrated plumps up the skin, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles.

Holloway-033Dermatologists recommend eight to ten 8oz. ounce servings spread out over the course of a day.   You don’t want to try to drink it all at once, your organs can only absorb so much water at one time.  Drink too much at one time and you end up just having to pee a lot.  It is best to start hydrating your skin a few weeks before your wedding date (or engagement session).

According to a 2010 study in the journal Obesity, researchers found that drinking a 16oz glass of water as an appetizer before a meal can help you lose weight. With all those parties and celebrations (Bachelorette, Bachelor, rehearsal dinners, engagement etc) leading up to your wedding, it is important to remember to drink a glass of water with every cocktail you drink.   Also get into the habit of drinking a glass of water before heading to bed. Not only will it help you stay hydrated, but it will also make your head not feel like you got ran over by a mac truck the night before.

  1. Moisturizing your skin is also an important combination for healthy, beautiful skin. Apply moisturizer within 2 minutes of getting out of the shower to retain the moisture in your skin. Look for moisturizers that contain hyaluronic acid.   Hyaluronic acid can hold 1,000 times its weight in water.

  1. Get your beauty sleep for skin that glows. Get plenty of sleep for at least the few nights before your wedding. If you are not getting at least 6 hours of sleep it can greatly affect your skin.   Sleep specialists recommend 7-9 hours sleep a night. Your body rehydration balances while you are sleeping. Not getting enough sleep before your wedding day will cause poor water balance leading to those puffy, dark circles under your eyes, as well as dryer skin, which reveals more wrinkles. Your skin also creates collagen while you sleep, which prevents sagging.

Bonus tip, make sure you take time for yourself to destress, relax and have fun!
