Natural Media Packaging for Digital Negatives

I always get excited when I get packages in the mail.   Today I got a package of sample CD/DVD holders that I just love.  I found these fabulous CD holders for my couples that order the digital negatives with their wedding photography collections from Loktah.  With my new pricelist coming out in January, all new collections will include the digital negatives.  These are even more impressive in person.  They are made with a sturdy board like the type used in book binding.  The paper is dipped in beeswax for more durability.  I am really excited to be able to offer these to my all my wonderful couples.  They are a little more pricey than the tin covers I had been using, but they are so worth it!

Here is a snippet from their website  “Natural Media Products.  Rising from the Earth. Loktah specializes in High End Packaging made from Natural resources and Green Products found in the Himalayas.”  I took a few photographs of them today when they arrive, I couldn’t wait to share….  The sample package only included a few colors, they do have more available.

Eco-friendly wedding tips and ideas

Tips for a Green Wedding

In the spirit of the upcoming Green Expo I am vending at this Sunday February 14th, I would like to offer some tips for Greening up your wedding, whether you want to incorporate just an idea or two, or green-up your whole wedding, there are many resources out there. Weddings can be wasteful affairs, but they don’t have to be. Some basic quick tips you can incorporate would be purchase local products when available, in-season local organic food and flowers, recycled papers for paper products and eliminate long drives for guests.

For my own wedding, I used handmade tree-free paper in my DIY wedding invitations and printed my 1 page program on a tree-free mulberry paper. My centerpieces were potted flowers I got from Home Depot that I put in little galvanized steel buckets (from a craft store) to match the backyard “garden” theme, complete with DIY seed packet favors that doubled as place cards. I placed some large polished river rocks and tea lights around the plants to complete the look. The ceremony and reception was at one place to save on transportation. The web is a great resource to get lots of simple ideas to save money and the environment at the same time.

These are some of the general website resources I found on the web, and there are lots of other resources to find as well. Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any of the below websites, except Greener Photography.

Photography
Since I am a photographer, we will start with photography. Finding a truly green photographer can be a difficult task. One resource to find a photographer would be Greener Photography. They provide engaged couples with a membership directory to search for a green photographer in your area. I am a member of this organization. I run my business and my personal life as green as possible. These are some of the things I do to make my business greener:

  • I use recycled paper for my printed supplies
  • I recycle any waste paper, and recycle/compost my personal waste as well.
  • I use rechargeable NiMH batteries, which can be charged over 500 times each.
  • I use a local professional lab for my prints and printed supplies.
  • I use a water filter instead of bottled water
  • I offer my clients a green package called the “Gaia Collection”. If you would like to learn more about this package and didn’t pickup a pricelist at the expo, I would be happy to email you more information info@heatherfullerphotography.com.

Paper products
Invitations/place cards/save the date/menu cards/programs/announcements/thank you cards can be made with recycled materials. With most people having smart phones and email an easy way to save paper and money is to opt for a paperless approach www.paperlesspost.com as an option for save the date notifications or even invitations. evite is also a good electronic option. I asked my wedding guests to reply to an email address to RSVP instead of including a reply card. I read on a blog that they created unique place cards made from colorful cereal boxes. This gives you the opportunity to really think outside the “box” and create something that is uniquely you.

I also offer custom designed save the date and thank you cards using the imagery from your engagement session, or wedding, printed on recycled paper.

The above reference links has lots of resources for paper, favors, centerpieces, attire, jewelry, and the honeymoon.

New client proofing and “mini” client sites

We have upgraded our website and are very excited to be now offering password protected client proofing and mini sites directly from our main website www.heatherfullerphotography.com

To access your online proofing gallery, click on the proofing menu option and it will require you enter in a password that will be sent to you via email approximately 4 weeks after your event for wedding clients and 1-2 weeks for portrait clients.  You will be able to pay for your orders by credit card through Paypal, I will also accept mailed payments by check or money order as well.  Please be patient with us during this transition, hopefully this will go smoothly, but with any new system there are problems that may arise.  If you or your quests have any problems logging into, or using your gallery, please let us know right away so we can indentify the problem.

In our new packages, we will also be offering client “mini” sites for our wedding couples.  These sites are homepages that you can update yourself and you control all the content.  You can notify your wedding guests of your wedding details, venue information, directions, accommodations, things to do for out of town guests, and share photos.

We hope our current and future clients enjoy these upgraded features.

We’re going “Green”!!!

We have decided to make sure everything we do as a business stays in line in with our personal beliefs about protecting the environment and keeping it clean for future generations.  Anyone who knows me, knows that I have always been an advocate for recycling and eating organic and local produce when available.  We used to have a Hybrid vehicle back when they first came on the market.  I wish we still had that car now with gas prices the way they are.  We recycle everything we can, I have always been an avid recycler, so it is only natural to translate that over to the business as well.  We use NIMH rechargeable batteries that can be reused over 500 times keeping countless toxic one use batteries out of the landfills.  NIMH batteries don’t contain cadmium, mercury or lead, like other rechargeable battery systems.  We are just about a paperless office, and the things we need to print, like contracts will be printed on recycled paper.  We will be cutting out paper proofs for next season and doing all proofing online.  Of course we will still offer the option of purchasing a full set of 4×6 proofs in our Ala Carte menu, afterall, I think photographs are to be taken care of and treasured for years (and generations) to come.  Most people never take the effort to look at their digital files, even in the digital age, they want something tangible you can touch and feel.  That is where albums come in.  It is very easy to pull an album off the shelf and reminisce with family and friends, and share some laughs over fond memories.  I found a beautiful 100% recycled material album to offer wedding as well as discerning portrait clients, aptly named the “Earth” collection.

The earth collection contains the world’s first GREEN photo books.  Printed on 100% post-consumer recycled acid-free archival paper and utilizing environmentally sensitive materials, like hemp, from conscious suppliers.  The entire process is powered by green E-certified windpower.  Carbon offsets and trees are planted with a portion of the proceeds from each book. From the distributors website.

I LOVE IT!  I just happened to stumble across these the other day, and feel these are the albums I want to offer in my higher end packages next season.  These books are very high quality top of the line albums.  I am very excited about these.  The albums will run approx $1500-$2000, these will be offered as an upgrade to the other albums I will be offering.  I will be getting a studio sample of that Album soon to show inquiring clients.  Here is a link to the Couture Website http://couturebook.com/ click on the Earth collection to view the different albums in the collection.

Stay tuned for more posts within the next few days.  I need to upload a shoot of my daughter from last weekend and a wedding from this past weekend.
